# Emergency Exit

Understand the early-exit mechanism, returned balance, and penalty routing to the mining pool.

Emergency Exit is the early-exit mechanism for a Locked Position.

```
Locked Position
  ↓
Emergency Exit
  ├── 85% returned to miner
  └── 15% added to Mining Pool
```

An Emergency Exit returns 85% of Locked Tokens to the miner. The remaining 15% is sent to the Mining Pool as the Emergency Exit penalty.

The penalty does not guarantee an increase in any other miner's return. Its effect on individual rewards depends on the overall Mining Pool and Mining Power distribution.

### Normal and early-exit paths

| Path              | Result                                                                    |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Normal Commitment | Mining Power progresses to 100%, then 15% of Locked Tokens unlock per day |
| Emergency Exit | 85% of Locked Tokens returned, 15% sent to Mining Pool |

The normal lifecycle is specified in [Unlock Schedule](/mining/unlock-schedule.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://whitepaper.usegpu.app/mining/emergency-exit.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
